Sewing patterns available here
Hello hello! This post should have been published before the Spring cape, but schedule didn’t work!
After more than a month I’m finally back to my regular schedule with new patterns. I was away from my studio since the first week of February since I was scripted for another job, always related to my skills.
Well, I indeed needed something different from my studio and I kindly feel refreshed and ready to start working on new patterns again!
Today I want to share an easy pattern: a 1890-1900 petticoat, perfect for this spring!
I was inspired by an image I found online, but I had to alter the original decorations since in my petticoat the flowers (originally placed above the ruffled ribbon) simple didn’t work. I tried to decor the petticoat with other embellishments, but at the end I decided to keep it plain.
The fabric I choose are:
- Cotton as main fabric. The petticoat is interlined with another kind of cotton (a striped one, usually used for bedsheets) wince the main fabric was a little bit too thin.
- Silk dupioni for the ruffled ribbon.
- Vintage poly lace: Oh well, sometimes I have to choose the poly option. Laces are quite expensive!
- Satin ribbon, which can be seen on the back of the petticoat.
- I also used a silk taffetta which is barely visible on the hem.
- for this one I ruffled a strip of orange taffettà as the original images shows: I found it very useful to give some fullness to the above lace on the bottom.
As always you can find my patterns on my etsy shop (link above) with S- 5XL sizes and tutorial attached.
I’m also thinking of making a guide for the necessary undergarments needed, since I found some of you have troubles in achieving the right silhouette.
Hope you liked this post and see you in the next one!
